The West Virginia Chapter was formed on October 17, 1933 and covers most of the
state.
Our office is located in the state capital of Charleston and is staffed
on a part-time basis
by volunteers from the local Life Member Club.
Here in the "Mountain State" as in all of Pioneering, we have a long
tradition of service to
our sponsoring company, our community and our fellow
Pioneers. The spirit of volunteerism
has enabled our folks to "answer the call
of those in need" on many occasions and in all
sorts of circumstances while
enjoying the bond of fellowship with their associates.
Do you have that volunteer spirit? If so, then we have a volunteer
opportunity for you. From
needle work to computer networking, or from Pioneer
leadership roles to just helping out,
we have an opportunity for you to utilize
your talents and abilities.
The "Dictionary Project" provides
student dictionaries to 3rd graders. Imagine, as a third
grader, having your
own dictionary to help you with your vocabulary and your homework.
"Map Rugs" is an excellent project which helps kids with U.S.
and state geography.
We are involved in "Domestic Abuse" programs throughout the state. And we try to do
an "Environmental" project during the year.
If you’re interested in working with physically challenged youngsters then
you should
check out the International Sports Jamboree at North Bend
State Park every July.
Our volunteers also support the Spina Bifida Camp
at Cedar Lakes every summer.
If your interests are more technical in nature or computer oriented you can
help repair
"Talking
Books" so visually impaired folks can enjoy the literary world through
audiotapes?
There are many projects not mentioned here and new ones come along all the
time. The
need is there. Will you be? If you want to get involved, click on
"Volunteer Sign-up" or
call any of our contact numbers and we will be glad to
help get you started.
Yours in Pioneering,
