The TelecomPioneers will provide a cook-out
complete with hotdogs, hamburgers and all the fixings, on the Thursday of
the week long camp. In turn, volunteers are provided with a talent
show immediately following the picnic, so there is lots of love going around.
We could always use your help.
VIAL OF LIFE PROGRAM
Keeps Vital Medical Information
Handy
You're found unconscious, emergency medical personnel respond, but
how
do they know how you react to certain
drugs, or have pre-existing medical conditions? They find your "Vial
of Life" and read it. The Vial of Life program by Verizon West
Virginia Pioneers provides medical personnel with your vital medical
information when you are unable.
Each vial is actually a large, empty medicine container that
contains two sheets of paper with your personal medical information.
You place it on the top right hand shelf of your refrigerator. You
place a sticker, that is provided on your door to alert medical
personnel that you have a Vial.
Started by the Verizon Maryland
Pioneers in 1999, the Vial of Life program has provided thousands of
medical vials and medical forms to thousands in our neighboring
state. Our West Virginia program began in mid-October of this year,
and with the support of our corporate sponsors at Verizon, we are
beginning to distribute thousands of Vials to West Virginians.
"You can have one for yourself or
for each family member," said Project Chairperson, Donna Mayfield,
"Some persons also carry a vial in their glove box. It's the same
concept. A sticker on your car window will alert rescuers that if
you are unconscious, they can find your medical data in a vial in
your glove box."
